I had to do this very long, hour-plus buildup to get you to what’s really at stake. I wanted to point out that the transition, the Great Mutation from Earth into Air, marks a shift away from the mechanistic, materialist view of how the world operates. The way the world functions is going to change dramatically—gradually at first, then accelerating starting today as the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction resumes its campaign through the air signs. It will continue to do that.

Now, you have to keep in mind that although the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction occurs exactly today (December 21, 2020), Jupiter and Saturn have been coming into alignment over the past nine months. So if you go back over the past nine months, what has happened?
We’ve seen the COVID-19 pandemic emerge, with seventy-four million confirmed cases, 1.6 million deaths, spreading across more than two hundred and thirty countries and territories. It has caused global socioeconomic disruptions, widespread supply shortages, and the postponement or cancellation of sporting, religious, political, and cultural events. Many countries implemented mandatory lockdowns and face mask mandates, even canceling Christmas celebrations, like in the UK.
The killing of George Floyd led to protests and riots throughout 2020 in the United States and internationally. The World Trade Organization says trade growth has completely stagnated. We also have a trade war with China, so global trade is in a state of recessionary collapse.
The sectors most affected have been minerals, fuel oil, machinery, mechanical appliances, and electrical machinery. We’re seeing oil prices decline. The British withdrawal agreement went into effect at the end of January 2020, and unless someone can tell me otherwise, it looks like we’re headed toward a very hard, disorderly exit.
That’s significant, especially because it’s happening within days of the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction. Mexico and the United States signed the USMCA agreement (United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement), and Canada signed it in March 2020. That is a new trade agreement. Why is this so important?
The Historical Pattern of the Great Mutation
Based on my research, it seems that every time we transition in a 242-year synodic cycle—meaning we move from Earth into Air, Air into Water, and so on—we see major booms. If you look at the 242-year cycle, known as the Great Mutation, it corresponded with the beginning of the First Industrial Revolution, along with the railway and canal boom.

We see that first boom period. The next boom period, in 1861, was the Second Industrial Manufacturing Revolution. The third, in 1881, was the American westward expansion boom. The fourth, in 1901, was the American petroleum export boom, when America became the world’s leading exporter of oil and dominated that position into the 1970s.
Then we had the fifth one, the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction of 1921, which corresponded with the Roaring Twenties boom. That was followed by the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction of 1941 and the World War II economic boom. Then came the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction of 1961 and the third Industrial Space Race boom, followed by the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction of 1981 and the Reagan economic boom.
Boom Cycles and Economic Collapse
It also correlated with collapse. When there is a boom somewhere in the world, somebody else is collapsing. Not everybody is booming. Many places may be prospering, but very few people, especially mundane astrologers, know that the Soviet Union between 1980 and 1983 experienced negative 25% GDP growth.
Negative 5% GDP is generally considered a recession. Negative 10% is a depression. The Soviet Union experienced negative 25% or worse for several years in a row. It went through a complete economic collapse.
Then you have the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction of 2000, which corresponded with the globalization boom. That’s important because it shows that economies restructure. The United States economy is deeply connected to the global economy, and despite everything, it remains the largest economy in the world.
I know many people say that distinction belongs to China, but we will soon find out that is not the case. The United States economy still dominates the planet and remains the largest manufacturing economy. Even though manufacturing makes up only about 8% of the U.S. economy, that 8% exceeds the entire Chinese manufacturing economy in size.
At one time, manufacturing represented 50% of our economy. We reduced it, outsourced much of it to China, gave them the technology, and gave them everything they needed to compete with us. That’s what they planned to do, and that’s what they are doing.
What I’m getting at is that we saw this expansion occur, but we also saw the globalization boom increase the size of the American economy while the middle class began to deleverage. We’re going to get into that.
Understanding Jupiter-Saturn Cycles as Chapters of History
Now, let me explain what’s important here. For those of you who are not into astrology, the main point is this: Jupiter-Saturn conjunctions seem to define 240-year periods and 20-year periods that act like chapters and subchapters in history.
A 240-year period represents a major chapter in world history. A 20-year period represents a subchapter or paragraph that helps build out that larger chapter.
We moved from one chapter to another. The first chapter began in 1603, the second in 1842, and the third in 2020. We are now in that third chapter, and it is associated with a new element. More specifically, it is associated with Aquarius.
Aquarius and the Beginning of a New Civilization Cycle
Aquarius is a winter constellation in the Northern Hemisphere, located near Pisces and Cetus. Essentially, this conjunction heralds a new beginning related to technology, society, government, and the fate of humanity.
The Jupiter-Saturn conjunction taking place today occurs at zero degrees Aquarius. The first degree of any sign is critical in astrology because it symbolizes the first phase of a new cycle of development.
Aquarius is a fixed sign traditionally ruled by Saturn. It is associated with community, large groups of people, and the civic principles that govern society. It is linked with freedom, liberty, equality, fraternity, the pursuit of happiness, and the innovation of new systems and technologies that can empower humanity and create a more compelling future.
Aquarius is the sign of the humanitarian. It seeks to improve the conditions of humanity through moral, altruistic, logical, and principle-centered actions. Its focus is on human evolution, progress, and the advancement of civilization.
The Rise of Technological Utopianism
So, this conjunction heralds a new beginning related to technology, social reform, global governance, religion, and perhaps entirely new forms of religion. It signifies the transition of civilization itself.
We’re entering a new 242-year period, and Aquarius is associated with unexpected, disruptive changes to old and outdated systems. It seeks to cleanse humanity of what is no longer needed and replace it with something better.
What we’re talking about is a civilizational transition. To me, as a mundane astrologer, the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in Aquarius suggests a movement toward what could be described as a technological utopia—or at least the ideal of technological utopianism.
Technological utopianism is the belief that advances in science and technology can help create a better world and perhaps even fulfill certain utopian ideals.
A techno-utopia envisions a society in which laws, governments, and social conditions operate primarily for the benefit and well-being of all citizens. It is often imagined as a near-future world where advanced science and technology make higher standards of living possible.
The End of Scarcity and the Post-Industrial Age
This is going to affect everything. We may see transformations in human nature, economics, and even in how we approach suffering, aging, and death. The movement is in that direction. Astrology suggests we are being pulled toward it, even though humanity will resist.
We always resist change. There will be pain involved because we have been operating within a mechanistic, materialistic worldview—a hierarchical, top-down, zero-sum system where windfall profits often benefit a few at the expense of many.
So there is resistance. We have this old Earth paradigm that is now giving way to an Air paradigm. We are undergoing what I would call a post-industrial, post-mechanistic transformation. We are living in the post-industrial age.
Technological growth may eventually lead to the end of economic scarcity. The elimination of scarcity could ultimately reduce or eliminate many of the long-standing social problems that humanity has faced for thousands of years.
Technology as a Force for Human Evolution
Now, for those of you who think this sounds a little too idealistic, keep in mind that I don’t expect it all to unfold exactly that way. But I do believe we are moving in that direction.
Here’s the premise I want to make: technology reflects and encourages the best aspects of human nature. It fosters communication, collaboration, sharing, helpfulness, and community.
Technology improves interpersonal communication and strengthens our relationship with communities. We’ve already seen this through the internet.
Technology democratizes society. It expands access to knowledge and skills, connects people with information, and creates powerful synergies.
It broadens freedom of expression. The online world allows individuals to voice their opinions, influence others, and participate economically in ways that were previously impossible.
Technology can reduce inequalities of power and wealth. It has the potential to challenge the dynamic of the 1% versus the 99%, creating a world where individuals have greater opportunities and more equal standing.
Technology implies progress, and the speed of that progress depends on both the technology itself and our ability to integrate it into society.
That is the premise. We will also discuss the unforeseen impacts of technology, but one could argue that many of those unforeseen consequences are positive.
As more people discover and use a technology, they often find innovative ways to apply it. Take the internet, for example. As more people adopted it, they connected with millions of others and transformed it into a social revolution.
Revolution is coming, folks.
Technology increases the efficiency of consumer choice. We’re seeing it now with video games, television, and digital media. Everything is going to be revolutionized by this.
